Driver/Vehicle Information Display: Description and Operation
Driver Information Center (DIC) Description and Operation
The driver information center (DIC) displays important vehicle information. The DIC also displays time, outside air temperature, date, audio system
information, warning messages and trip computer (if equipped). The DIC serves as a gateway between the medium speed bus and the low speed bus. If
the DIC is disconnected, communication with any other control module on the medium speed bus is not possible. The DIC is responsible for processing
the information displayed through the serial data circuit. The DIC is also responsible for calculating and displaying the outside air temperature. The
outside air temperature is transmitted to the DIC over the serial data circuit by the steering column control module (SCCM). The outside air temperature
information is transmitted in degrees Celsius and the DIC is responsible for converting the outside air temperature to Fahrenheit. There are two DIC
options available which are the base level DIC and the uplevel DIC. The type of data eg. trip computer and audio system information and how it is
displayed depends on the level of the DIC and other available vehicle options.
DIC Switch(es)
The functions, settings and the various system displays of the DIC can be accessed using the left thumbwheel switch located on the steering wheel or
buttons on the audio system. Menu options can be selected using the left thumbwheel switch. Turn the thumbwheel switch DOWN to advance to the next
menu, UP to return to the previous menu and PRESS to select the desired menu.
On some vehicles, the DIC display menus can be accessed from the multifunction switch located on the audio system. TURN the knob until the desired
menu is displayed and highlighted. PRESS the knob to select the menu items available.
System Settings
Pressing the SETTINGS button on the audio system is used to navigate through the system settings. Use the left arrow button on the audio system or the
left thumbwheel switch on the steering wheel to navigate to different menu items and make the desired selection. The following system settings are
available:

Contrast (Uplevel DIC only - adjusts the display contrast)

Day/Night (Up level DIC only - adjusts the display to match the lighting conditions)
Trip Computer
The vehicle may be equipped with a trip computer displayed in the DIC. The trip computer provides vehicle information and driving data. To access the
trip computer press the BC button on the audio system or press the left thumbwheel switch on the steering wheel. The following trip computer
information can be displayed in the DIC:

AVERAGE SPEED
This is the average vehicle speed recorded since the current ignition cycle or since the last reset of the value. Ignition time is measured from the time that
the ignition is turned ON to the time when the ignition is turned OFF. The value of this mode is retained when the ignition is OFF. The average speed
value can be reset to zero at any time and restarted. Average speed is displayed in miles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (km/h).
RANGE (FUEL)
This display indicates the estimated distance that the vehicle can travel under the current fuel economy and fuel level conditions since the last reset of the
value. The DIC displays the approximate number of remaining miles or kilometers the vehicle can be driven without refueling.
AVERAGE CONSUMPTION
This is the vehicle average fuel economy calculated using the travel distance and fuel used information. It is the approximate average miles per gallon
(mpg) or liters per 100kilometers (1/100km). The average consumption value can be reset to zero at any time and restarted.
