Date: July 14, 2009
Subject: Check Engine Light Illuminated, DTCs P0036, P0037 or P0137 (Replace O2 Sensor and Install Flexible Convoluted Conduit)
Models:
2008-2009 Saturn Astra
Equipped With Engine RPO 2HO
Please Refer to GMVIS
Condition
Some customers may comment that the check engine light is illuminated. Upon investigation, the technician may find DTC P0036 (HO2S Heater Control
Circuit Sensor 2) , P0037 (HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low Voltage Sensor 2 ) or P0137 (HO2S Circuit Low Voltage Sensor 2) set.
Cause
This condition may be caused by the post O2 sensor harness contacting the power steering bracket or the drive axle.
Correction
Important
DO NOT attempt to repair the damaged wire.
1. Verify the customer's concern.
2. Locate the post O2 sensor. Inspect the O2 sensor harness for contact on the power steering bracket or the drive axle.
3. Remove the old O2 sensor.
4. Before installing the new sensor, install flexible convoluted conduit (P/N 12051375, or the equivalent) on the new sensor wire.
-
Cut a 15 cm (6 in) length of conduit (P/N 12051375, or the equivalent).
-
Install conduit between the sensor and the retainer clip (1).
-
Install a tie strap at one end of the conduit in order to position the end of it 5 cm (2 in) from the sensor (2).
5. Install a new O2 sensor, P/N 55565000.
6. Once the new sensor is installed, loop a tie strap through the power steering bracket (1) and capture the O2 sensor harness. Pull the tie strap to
approximately a 5 cm (2 in) diameter loop in order to prevent the harness from contacting the drive axle.
