Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair
Steering Knuckle Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the front wheel bearing and hub. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (See: Suspension/Wheel Bearing/Service and
Repair/Front Suspension).
2. Disconnect the lower ball joint and separate the steering knuckle from the lower control arm. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement (See:
Suspension/Control Arm/Service and Repair).
3. Disconnect the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (See: Tie Rod/Service and
Repair/Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement).
4. Remove the steering knuckle from the spring strut support tube.

Remove the 2 nuts.

Remove the 2 bolts (1) from the spring strut support tube.
*
Remove the steering knuckle.
Installation Procedure
Note: Tightening to torque does not take place until camber has been adjusted.
1. Install the steering knuckle to the spring strut support tube.

Use the 2 new bolts.
*
Install the 2 new nuts.
2. Connect the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement (See: Suspension/Control Arm/Service and Repair
).
3. Attach the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (See: Tie Rod/Service and
Repair/Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement).
4. Install the front wheel bearing and hub. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (See: Suspension/Wheel Bearing/Service and
Repair/Front Suspension).
5. Adjust the camber. Refer to Front Camber Adjustment (See: Alignment/Service and Repair/Front Camber Adjustment).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (See: Service Precautions/Vehicle Damage Warnings/Fastener Caution).
6. Tighten the 2 screwed joint, spring strut support tube to the steering knuckle, in 3 stages.
1. Tighten the 2 spring strut support tube to steering knuckle bolted connections to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
