Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Poor Transmitter Range (Rotate Position of Body Control Module (BCM) 180° in Vehicle)
MODELS AFFECTED:
2000 - 2001 Saturn L-Series vehicles equipped with remote keyless entry (RPO RFA) up to and including VIN 1Y570729
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment of poor RKE range while trying to lock or unlock the vehicle.
CAUSE:
This condition may be caused by orientation of internal antenna within the BCM.
CORRECTION:
Verify condition and rotate BCM in vehicle 180°.
CLAIM INFORMATION:
To receive credit for this repair during the warranty coverage period, submit a claim through the Saturn Dealer System for N4800 (Computer (Control),
Body - R&R or Replace).

Service Procedure
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Range Performance Check
1.
Move vehicle outside and as far away as possible from objects that could interfere with RKE function.
2.
While standing directly behind vehicle on drivers side at a distance of 15 feet, function test features on RKE.

If the vehicle locks and unlocks, RKE system is OK. However RKE range performance will be increased when BCM is rotated. Proceed to
BCM Rotation Procedure" in this bulletin to rotate the BCM.

If the vehicle does not lock and unlock, move closer to the vehicle while functioning RKE transmitter.

If RKE features operate when moved closer to vehicle it will be necessary to rotate the BCM. Proceed to "BCM Rotation Procedure" in
this bulletin to rotate the BCM.

If RKE features do not operate, refer to "Remote Keyless Entry (RKE System Check" procedure located in the Locks and Security section
of the 2000 - 2001 L-Series Body Electrical Volume II Service Manual.
BCM Rotation Procedure
1.
Open glove compartment door.
2.
Remove glove compartment lamp assembly pulling on lamp plunger.
