Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT REAR OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT (IN-VEHICLE)

TOOLS REQUIRED

J42067 Rear Main Seal Installer

REMOVAL 

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the flexplate. 

3. Center punch the steel ring of the rear main oil seal.
4. Carefully drill a small shallow pilot hole into steel ring of the rear main oil seal. Use caution when drilling the hole so as not to damage the engine

components on the opposite side of the rear main oil seal.

5. Screw in a self-tapping screw.
6. Use pliers to pull out rear main oil seal.
7. Clean all sealing surfaces.
