Oil Filter Housing: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL
INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END
FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.
IMPORTANT: Be sure the vehicle is level during this entire procedure.
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
IMPORTANT: Due to the internal baffling in the oil pan, allow at least 5 minutes for sufficient time for oil drainage once the oil pan drain plug is
removed.
IMPORTANT: Use a box end wrench, six point socket, cap-type, or strap-type wrench to prevent damage during removal.
2. Remove oil filter cap from oil filter cartridge housing.
3. Remove oil filter cartridge from oil filter cap.
4. Wipe oil filter cap and oil filter housing with a clean, dry cloth.
5. Remove oil filter cartridge housing from engine block, use a socket on the sleeve on the inside of housing.
