Some 1991 Saturns with Automatic Transaxles.

CONDITION:
Some 1991 Saturns, within the followiiig VIN ranges, may exhibit erratic shifts, harsh shifts, slip shifts, skipping gears or not upshifting.

CAUSE:
These conditions may be caused by a chipped ceramic seat, inside the transaxle actuator. The resultant ceramic chip coming off the seat can stick in the
actuator or some other fluid passage in the valvebody causing erratic shifts and/or poor shift quality.

CORRECTIVE
ACTION:
If a vehicle displays any of the subject symptoms and falls within the VIN ranges given, replace the control body assembly (valvebody). Refer to
"Valvebody" in the "Automatic Transaxle In-Vehicle Repair" section of the "Automatic Transaxle Service Manual."

After replacing the control body assembly, verify that the condition has been corrected. If the condition is still present, follow diagnostic procedures
located in the "Automatic Transaxle Service Manual."
