Camshaft: Service and Repair
Camshaft - Installation

CAUTION:  Make sure the crankshaft is located at top dead center (mark on damper is aligned with arrow mark on front cover and both camshaft and
sprocket dowel pins located at the 12 o'clock position). Camshafts and caps are marked for proper installation. Improper installation will break the
camshaft(s). Camshaft dowel pin must be aligned with sprocket during installation. Valves will be damaged if camshaft is rotated to align dowel pin after
installation.

1. Lubricate the camshaft bearing journals with clean engine oil and install Both camshafts and all bearing caps, except the front cap on each 

camshaft. Tighten down the bearing cap bolts uniformly. 
Torque to 14 Nm (124 inch lbs.).

2. Install the camshaft sprocket pilot bolts (one in each camshaft) and tighten. This will pull the camshaft fully forward and align the sprocket support

for installation of the sprocket onto camshaft. 
Torque to 14 Nm (124 inch lbs.).

3. Remove the camshaft sprocket support bolt/blocks (two in each sprocket) and nuts. Remove the front angled support fixture.

CAUTION:  The camshafts must be positioned fully forward prior to bearing cap installation.

4. Install the forward two remaining camshaft bearing caps and timing chain guide. 

Torque to 14 Nm (124 inch lbs.).

5. Move each sprocket from the sprocket adapter onto the end of the camshaft.

NOTE:  Make sure the camshaft dowel pin aligns with the slot in each cam sprocket. It may be necessary to rotate the camshaft slightly (one or
two degrees maximum) to achieve dowel pin alignment.

6. Fully seat each sprocket on the end of each camshaft.
