Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and remove air cleaner.

2.

On models with anti-lock brakes, remove battery, battery box and tray.

3.

Remove two master cylinder to brake booster nuts and move master cylinder away from booster without bending brake lines.

4.

Disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum check valve.

5.

Remove booster pushrod retainer and washer, then remove pushrod from brake pedal pin, Fig. 1.

6.

Remove four nuts attaching brake booster, then remove booster from vehicle.

7.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque booster to body nuts and master cylinder to booster nuts to 20 ft. lbs.
