ABS Light: Description and Operation
The Anti-Lock Telltale lamp, located in the instrument cluster, has several functions. If the lamp comes on solid, a malfunction has occurred and
the ABS system has been disabled and should be serviced as soon as possible. If the telltale lamp is flashing, a malfunction has occurred, but the
ABS system is still operational. The vehicle should still be serviced as soon as possible. Because the telltale lamp is also used to perform a bulb
and system check, it will come on with the key on and the engine not running. When the engine is started, the lamp will turn off after
approximately three seconds. If the lamp remains on or begins to flash, the self-diagnostic system has detected a malfunction. The red brake
warning lamp will light if master cylinder brake fluid level is low or if parking brake switch is closed; it is activated by the ABCM.
