SUBJECT:
Squeak and/or Rattle Noise from Rear End of Vehicle over Rough Road Surfaces (Add Shims to High Mount Stop Lamp)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1996 and 1997 Saturn Wagons built before and including VIN VZ301583
CONDITION:
A squeak and/or a rattle noise can be heard from the rear end of the vehicle when driving over rough road surfaces.
CAUSE:
This condition may be caused by movement between the high mount stop lamp assembly and the rear liftgate glass.
CORRECTION:
Add two rubber shims to the high mount stop lamp assembly according to procedures in this bulletin.
PROCEDURES
1.
Open liftgate.
2.
Remove liftgate trim retainers on each end of the liftgate window upper garnish molding by pushing center of retainer in.
3.
Carefully remove liftgate window upper garnish molding by pulling at clip locations.
4.
Disconnect high mount stop lamp assembly electrical connector.
