SUBJECT: 
SIR Telltale Lamp On with DTC 24 in SDM Memory (Install Retainer and Inspect SIR Coil Assembly)

Due to revisions in the procedures, this bulletin supercedes bulletin 96-T-57A, which should be discarded.

MODELS AFFECTED: 
1995 - 1996 Saturns, and 1997 Saturns built up to and including VIN VZ169125

CONDITION: 
The SIR telltale lamp may be On with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 24 stored in sensing and diagnostic module's (SDM's) memory. On 1996-1997
vehicles, if a DTC 24 is set, DTC 71 will also be present; which requires the SDM to be replaced.

CAUSE: 
The wire leads from the SIR coil assembly to the inflator module may have shorted to ground on the lower left steering wheel puller hole.

CORRECTION: 
Follow the procedure in this bulletin to identify and repair the condition.
