Seat Belt Retractor: Service and Repair

1.
On models with manual transaxle, remove transaxle shift knob.
2.
On models with automatic transaxle, tape release button in depressed position on shift lever handle.
3.
Remove liner in rear storage tray and remove two screws below the liner.
4.
Remove two screws on front sides of console.
5.
Apply parking brake and remove trim plate below park brake lever by lifting at rear edge and working the plate up evenly.
6.
Remove both ashtrays, then disconnect front ashtray lamp from console.
7.
On models with power windows, remove window/mirror switch by sliding switch forward then lifting rear edge. Disconnect switch electrical
connectors.
8.
Remove center console side trim panels, then lift rear of console. From below console, release and push out both seat belt bezels, Fig. 3.
9.
Remove center fastener, then the retractor anchor bolts.
10.
Remove retractors. Disconnect electrical connector on driver's side.
11.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a.
Apply Loctite 242 threadlocker or equivalent, to all restraint bolts/nuts prior to installation.
b.
Torque retractor anchor bolts to 35 ft. lbs.
c.
To ease installation, fully recline both front seats and set front of console over shifter.
