Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair

1.
Depress brake pedal, then loosen axle to hub nut.
2.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel assembly.
3.
Remove caliper to knuckle attaching bolts, the using suitable wire position caliper aside.
4.
Loosen but do not remove knuckle to strut attaching bolts.
5.
If rotor is difficult to remove, use two M8 X 1.25 self tapping bolts, to remove, Fig. 1.
6.
Remove axle nut and washer, then remove and discard lower control arm ball stud cotter pin.
7.
Loosen castle nut until level with top of ball stud.
8.
Remove and discard tie rod cotter pin.
9.
Remove tie rod and castle nut.
10.
Using tool No. SA9132A or equivalent, separate lower control arm from knuckle. Do not use wedge type tool to separate or ABS speed sensor
ring or seal damage may occur.
11.
Remove lower ball joint castle nut, Fig. 2.
12.
Using tool No. SA91100C or equivalent, separate tie rod end from steering knuckle.
13.
On models equipped with ABS brakes, disconnect wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
14.
On all models, support or suspend drive axle assembly.
15.
Remove strut to knuckle attaching bolts, then remove knuckle and hub assembly. If difficult to separate axle from hub, tap end of drive axle shaft
using suitable block of wood and hammer. Do not hammer end of axle.
16.
Reverse procedure to install.
