Shift Cable: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1.
Remove console assembly as follows:
a.
Tape release button on shifter lever handle.
b.
Remove rear storage tray liner, then remove two screws below liner.
c.
Remove two front console attaching screws.
d.
Apply parking brake, then remove trim panel below park brake lever.
e.
Remove ashtrays, then disconnect front ashtray electrical connector.
f.
On models equipped with power window/mirrors, lift window/lock/mirror switch rear edge, slide switch rearward, then disconnect
electrical connectors.
g.
Remove side trim panels.
h.
Lift rear of console, then from below console, release and push out seat belt bezels.
i.
Lift console while feeding seat belts through console.
2.
Position shifter in second gear, then disconnect cable end from shifter.
3.
Depress two cable tabs on cable housing, then remove cable from shifter assembly.
4.
Remove air induction tube.
5.
Disconnect cable from shifter lever.
6.
Depress two cable retaining tabs, then remove cable from converter housing.
7.
Raise and support vehicle.
8.
Remove cable grommet from front of dash, then remove two attaching nuts and feed grommet plate through dash hole.
INSTALLATION
1.
Feed cable and plate through front of dash, then install plat and tighten attaching nuts to specifications.
2.
Connect cable to shift lever assembly.
3.
Install cable housing to shifter assembly.
4.
Install console assembly.
5.
Install cable to converter housing.
6.
Ensure transaxle and shifter are in park position.
7.
Release cable adjustment lock tab, using a screwdriver, to pry lock tab up, then lift with hand.
8.
Connect cable to shift lever, then install retainer.
9.
Move cable housing back and forth in adjuster, noting endplay:
a.
Center cable housing in middle of endplay.
b.
Press in lock tab.
c.
Verify correct operation.
10.
Install air induction tube.
