Parking Lock Cable: Testing and Inspection
1. Set parking brake.
2. With ignition key removed from ignition lock cylinder and control shift lever in the "P" (Park) position, depress control shift lever button and
attempt to move control shift lever out of "P" (Park) position.
a. If control shift lever can be shifted out of "P" (Park) position, refer to "Park Lock Cable Assembly Adjustment" procedure.
b. If the control shift lever cannot be shifted out of "P" (Park) position, proceed to next step.
3. Insert ignition key into ignition lock cylinder assembly and turn to RUN position.
4. Depress brake pedal and depress control shift lever button and move control shift lever out of "P" (Park) position.
5. Release the brake pedal. With the control shift lever out of the "P" (Park) position, attempt to turn ignition to the LOCK position. (Make sure
ignition key is pushed inward toward the steering column when it is rotated toward the LOCK position.)
a. If ignition key can be turned to LOCK position with control shift lever out of "P" (Park) position, refer to "Park Lock Cable Assembly
Adjustment" procedure.
b. If ignition key cannot be turned to LOCK position with control shift lever out of "P" (Park) position, park lock cable assembly is properly
adjusted. Proceed to next step.
6. Depress control shift lever button, move control shift lever to "P" (Park) position and turn ignition key to the LOCK position.
7. Remove ignition key from ignition lock cylinder assembly.
