Condition
Some customers may comment that the Service Engine Soon (SES) telltale may be illuminated with DTC P0742 (TCC Torque Converter - Stuck ON)
recorded.
Cause
The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) system dynamics in Park may be difficult to diagnose correctly. The current diagnostic may be too sensitive during
this sampling period and results in a false setting of DTC P0742.
Correction
To correct this condition, reprogram TCM with appropriate new calibration from calibration information table.
Service Procedure
1.
Determine current TCM calibration ID. number.
A.
Connect Tech 2 scan tool to the vehicle.
B.
Navigate to the 2.2L (VIN D for VUE) Powertrain Menu or (VIN F for ION) Powertrain Menu.
C.
Select ID information.
D.
Select TRANSMISSION INFORMATION.
E.
Read Calibration I.D. and record this number for use in step 2.
Important:
Before installing new PCM calibration, make sure the Saturn Service Stall (SSS) version is TIS 2.5 2005 or later.
Important:
While ignition is OFF, apply parking brake to disable daytime running lights (DRLs) prior to starting reprogramming procedures.

Program the TCM with new calibration. Refer to the calibration information table and select the appropriate TCM calibration for the application.
Use Saturn Service Stall (SSS) software release TIS 2.5 2005 or higher data CD. For reprogramming procedures, refer to the Service
Programming System (SPS) in the SSS Users Guide.
