Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair

PRECAUTION

1. PRECAUTION

a. Before working on the fuel system, disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
b. Do not smoke or work near fire when handling the fuel system.
c. Keep gasoline away from rubber or leather parts.

2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

CAUTION:

DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE procedures must be performed before disconnecting any part of the fuel system.

After performing the DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE procedures, pressure will remain in the fuel line. When disconnecting the
fuel line, place a cloth or equivalent over fittings to reduce the risk of fuel spray.

a. Remove the circuit opening relay (Marking: C/OPN) from the instrument panel junction block.
b. Start the engine. After the engine has stopped, turn the ignition switch OFF.

HINT:  Possibly DTC P0171 (system too lean) will be set.

c. Check that the engine does not start.
d. Remove the fuel tank cap, and let the air out of the fuel tank.
e. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

Install the circuit opening relay.

3. FUEL SYSTEM

a. When disconnecting the high pressure fuel line, a large amount of fuel will spray out, so perform these procedures.

1. Discharge the pressure in the fuel system.
