Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Service and Repair
Removal

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM: SPIRAL CABLE: REMOVAL

REMOVAL

CAUTION: Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag
system before servicing  See: Service Precautions.

1. TURN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait for 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment.

3. REMOVE STEERING PAD See: Air Bag/Service and Repair/Steering Pad/Removal

4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY See: Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Column/Service and Repair/Removal

5. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER See: Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Column/Service and Repair/Removal

6. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER See: Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Column/Service and Repair/Removal

7. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE

(a) Detach the horn connector.
(b) Slide the slider and detach the airbag connector.
(c) Detach the steering sensor connector.

(d) Disengage the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable.

8. REMOVE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR See: Brakes and Traction Control/Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Steering Angle
