Detaching
–  Remove the right hand side complete half-shaft → Running gear, front-wheel drive and 4WD; Rep. gr.40 .
   
–  Cover the opening in the gearbox for the complete half-shaft using a clean cloth -A-.
–  Using a commercially available metal drill bit -B- (2 to 4 mm diameter), drill a hole in the ring of the ring-seal outer plate.
  Note
t  Grease the drill bit -B- so that the swarf sticks to bit.
t  Only drill into the metal ring -C-, so that gearbox does not get damaged.

–  Screw a self-tapping screw with an approx. diameter of 4 mm into the opening of the seal -arrow-.
  Note
t  To avoid damaging the bearing behind, do not screw in the self-tapping screw too far.
t  Pull out seal using puller -T10055- and adapter -T10055/2-.
t  Remove cloth and thoroughly clean gearbox and the opening for the drive shaft.
t  No metal shavings must be allowed to enter the gearbox or opening for drive shaft; if necessary, draw off shavings.
t  If only the metal ring of the sealing ring can be pulled out, carefully lever out the rest of the sealing ring using a screwdriver.
Installing
–  Smear the outside circumference and the lips of the seal with ATF.
l  Installation position: the open side of the seal faces the gearbox.
–  Fit the new seal by hand so that it is straight then press it in as far as possible so that the ring-seal is secured in the gearbox housing.

–  Fit the pressure tool -T10177- centred on the ring seal -A-.
–  Insert the seal ring, without tilting it until the pressure element is at the limit.
–  Install the right hand side complete half-shaft → Running gear, front-wheel drive and 4WD; Rep. gr.40.
–  ATF level: verification and topping up → Chapter.
