  Note
t  Gearbox removed.
t  Before replacement of the clutch disk and the clutch press, a test must be made to decide whether the fault is originating from the clutch release assembly or the operation mechanism.
t  Always replace any clutch plates and clutch presses with damaged or loose rivet joints.
t  Allocate clutch plate and pressure plate according to Electronic spare parts catalogue and engine code.
   
1 - Flywheel
q   check that the centring pins are correctly seated
q   The contact surface of the clutch disk must not have any grooves and must be free of oil or grease
q   Removing and fitting → Rep. Gr.13
2 - Clutch plate
q   Bore
q   Installation position: the shortest hub -arrow- points to the pressure plate.
q   Centring → Chapter
q   Lightly lubricate the splines
  Note
Clean the input shaft grooves, and if the clutch plates are worn as well as those of the hub; remove corrosion and apply a very fine layer of approved lubricating grease to the grooves → Spare parts catalogue. Then move the clutch plate on the input shaft from side to side, until the hub moves smoothly on the shaft. Eliminate excess grease.
3 - Clutch press
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Check the ends of the diaphragm → Fig.
  Note
The clutch presses are greased and protected from corrosion. Only the contact surface can be cleaned; otherwise working life of the clutch will be reduced.
4 - Bolt, 13 Nm
q   Allocate according to Electronic spare parts catalogue
q   Always replace
q   Loosen and tighten diagonally several times

   
Checking the ends of the diaphragm
l  The wear limit is up to half the thickness of the edges of the diaphragm -arrows-

Check flexible connection and riveted unions
–  Check flexible connection between pressure disk and cover for cracks and check that riveted unions are correctly seated.
–  Replace clutches with damaged springs or loose riveted unions -arrows-.
