Ratio calculation
Ratio calculation
The gear ratio between two gears, is obtained by dividing the number of teeth on the driven gear (Z2), by the number of teeth on the driving gear (Z1).
Example:

Gears5. gearFinal group
driving gear (primary)
48 (Z1 = driving gear)15 (Z1 = driving gear)
driving gear (secondary)
39 (Z2 = driving gear)68 (Z2 = driving gear)

i = Z2 : Z1
In this way we can find out:
iG = Gear ratio = ZG 2 : ZG 1 = 39 : 48 = 0,813
iA = Transmission ratio for bevel gear assembly = ZA2 : ZA1 = 68 : 15 = 4,533
It is obtained by multiplying the gear ratios of the longest gear and the differential.
itotal. = Overall ratio = iG x iA = 0.813 x 4.533 = 3.685
