Renewing oil seal for left flange shaft Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Mandrel -VW 295-

t	Punch -2062-

t	Extractor -T10037-

t	Collecting tray -V.A.G 1306-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.

t	Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.

t	Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-

Removal: l  Gearbox is installed Observe general repair notes → Chapter. –  Remove front left wheel.

–  Loosen bolts and quick-type locks -1- and -2- and remove front soundproofing -A-. –  If installed, loosen quick-type locks -3- and remove rear soundproofing -B-.

–  If fitted, remove soundproofing -arrows- in wheel housing (left-side).

–  If fitted, remove heat shield for drive shaft (left-side) -arrows-. –  Detach drive shaft -1- from flange shaft and tie as far as possible to front, taking care not to damage surface protection.

–  Place catch vessel -V.A.G 1306- below. –  Remove flange shaft (left-side); to do so, secure puller -T10037- to cover for differential -arrow-.

–  Lever out flange shaft oil seal.

Installation –  Lightly oil the outside of the new seal. –  Knock in new flange shaft oil seal using punch - 2062-; keep seal straight when installing. l  Installation depth: 5.50 ± 0.15 mm below top of cover. –  Fill half the space between the sealing lips and the dust lips with sealing grease. Allocation: → Spare parts catalogue, ETKA.   Note

t  Inspect polygon bearings for visible damage -2-. t  If the polygon bearings -2- do not run smoothly with the flange shaft removed, this does not necessarily indicate that the bearings are defective. An acoustic check can only be performed when fitted. t  The polygon bearings can only be renewed together with the flange shaft. t  Always renew circlip for flange shaft -5-.

–  Clamp flange shaft in vice, using jaw protectors. Use new circlip -A- to press old circlip out of groove in flange shaft. –  Knock flange shaft in with drift -VW 295-. –  Bolt drive shaft to flange shaft → Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. gr.40 –  If installed, screw on heat shield for left propeller shaft. –  Fill manual gearbox with gear oil and check oil level → Chapter . –  Install soundproofing. Tightening torque
