–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove front right wheel → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. Gr.44
–  Remove centre noise insulation → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.50.
–  Remove the right sound proofing → Rep. Gr.66.
   
–  Remove the bolts from the drive shaft heat shield -arrows-, if they are present, and remove it.
–  Remove right-hand articulated shaft: → Running gear, shafts, steering; Rep. Gr.40
–  Place a container under the gearbox.

–  Unscrew the bolt securing the right flanged shaft -arrow 1- with the spanner -T20203-; to do this, screw two bolts into the flange and immobilise the shaft with a lever.

–  Bolt the extractor -T10037- in the right flanged shaft.
  Note
It is advisable to remove the right flanged shaft with it to avoid damaging the polyginal bearings of the same.
–  Place the tool -VW 434- between the gearbox support and the knurled nut -T10037/1-.
–  Align the extractor -T10037- with the lower support -A- so that it lies parallel to the flange.
–  Remove the right flanged shaft.

Then fit the tool -T10047- as follows:
–  Place the two parts of the tool so that the marks -B- are facing each other.
–  The steps -arrows- must be below the bearing.
–  Then screw, as far as possible, the two parts.

–  Release the safety washer -A- of the needle bearings by levering.

–  When pressing, turn the axle -arrow- to avoid dmaging the sliding surface of the bearing which is on the axle.
–  Remove the seal -A- of the opening -arrow-.
