Read measured value block
Checking solenoid valves whilst driving
  • ◆ The solenoid valves can be checked whilst driving via "Read measured value block 08"; "Display group number 004". A second mechanic is required for the read out whilst driving.

Only the first three valves select gears

  • ◆ The table shows the solenoid valves -N88-, -N89- and -N90- as activated in each selector lever position. These solenoid valves control the switching valves to the relevant gears.
  • ◆ The solenoid valve -N91- activates the lock-up clutch modulation valve and is not covered here.
  • ◆ The solenoid valves -N92- and -N94- are supplementary valves which affect selection changes and are only controlled during gear changes and displayed in zones 5 and 6.
  • ◆ All solenoid valves are checked via self-diagnosis => Interrogating fault memory, page 01-39.
  • ◆ When checking also observe the "Switch element position", this is where you can find which clutches or brakes are active.

2)    The torque converter lock-up clutch must be open!

It is open when in display zone 1 "H" = hydraulic with slip is displayed. Additionally the character "+ or -" is displayed. "+" signifies that the engine speed (pump speed) is greater than turbine speed, vehicle under traction.

"-" signifies that the engine speed is less than turbine speed, vehicle in overrun.

3)    The gear shift must be completed. The torque converter lock-up clutch must be closed and the accelerator pedal value held constant (power from engine is delivered mechanically -without slip- "M").
