Removing and installing drive shaft

To remove the drive shaft, the selector shaft must be removed after taking out the parking lock gear → Chapter „Dismantling and assembling parking lock“.

1 -	Drive shaft

q	Number of teeth → Chapter.

q	Adjusting → Chapter.

q	Removing → Fig..

2 -	Gearbox housing

3 -	Bolt, 12 Nm

q	Removing bolt before removing or installing bearing supporting ring → Item.

q	Inserting with sealing compound -AKD 456 000 01-.

4 -	Needle bearing

q	Pressing out → Fig..

q	Pressing in → Fig..

5 -	Hexagon nut, 300 Nm

q	Engaging parking lock to remove or install.

q	Securing with drift.

6 -	Output gear

q	Number of teeth → Chapter.

q	Pulling off → Fig..

q	If signs of damage exist, always renew input gear and output gear together.

7 -	Taper roller bearing inner race

q	Pulling off → Fig..

q	Pressing on → Fig..

8 -	Taper roller bearing outer race

q	Removing → Fig..

q	Driving out with copper drift.

q	Pressing in → Fig..

9 -	Bolt, 25 Nm

10 -	Bearing cap

Shim

q	Determining thickness → Chapter „Adjusting drive shaft“.

12 -	Parking lock gear

q	Rounded side faces teeth of drive shaft.

13 -	Bearing supporting ring, 200 Nm

q	Removing bolt → Item before removing or installing bearing supporting ring.

q	Removing or installing → Fig..

q	Bearing supporting ring can only be unscrewed after selector shaft has been removed → Chapter „Dismantling and assembling parking lock“.

q	Insert bearing supporting ring carefully. Sealing lip and spring must not be damaged.

q	Supporting ring with oil seal → Fig..

q	Always renewing.

q	Placing onto bearing supporting ring → Item.

15 -	Oil seal for drive shaft

q	Removing with screwdriver.

16 -	Taper roller bearing outer race

q	Driving in → Fig..

q	Drive off with drift.

q	Pressing on → Fig..

17 -	Taper roller bearing inner race

Pulling off output gear A -  Two arm puller -Kukko 20/10- with hooks -Matra V/172- Input gears without through-holes in the hub can be pulled off by hand.

Pulling off taper roller bearing inner race –  Place pressure piece -3002- onto collar of output gear.

Pressing on taper roller bearing inner race

Removing taper roller bearing outer race I -  Clamp bearing cap in vice having protective jaw pads -A-. –  Working at alternate sides, drive taper roller bearing outer race slightly off bearing cap. II -  Then pull taper roller bearing outer race out of bearing cap. A -  Counter support, e.g. -Kukko 22/2- B -  Internal puller, 46...58 mm, e.g. -Kukko 21/7- –  Inspect bearing cap for damage.

Pressing in taper roller bearing outer race –  Press taper roller bearing outer race into bearing cap up to stop.

Removing and installing bearing supporting ring Remove locking bolt. A -  Torque wrench –  Tighten bearing supporting ring to 200 Nm and secure with locking screw. Insert bolt with sealing compound -AKD 456 000 01-.

Bearing supporting ring with oil seal for drive shaft Installation position of oil seal: Open side -arrow- faces towards taper roller bearing outer race.

Driving in drive shaft oil seal –  Insert oil seal with sealing lip pointing towards special tool. –  Insert oil seal carefully. Sealing lip and spring must not be damaged. –  Drive in oil seal onto stop.

Removing drive shaft A -  Ring spanner 32 mm

Driving in taper roller bearing outer race –  Insert drive shaft with taper roller bearing inner race, then drive in outer race.

Pressing out needle bearing

Pressing in needle bearing –  Place the stepped side -arrow- outwards and press the needle bearing in up to the stop.
