Dash panel insert, removal
Dash panel insert, removal
  WARNING
Before working on the electrical system, disconnect the battery earth strap.
  Note
t  When the battery is reconnected, the vehicle equipment (radio, clock, power windows) must be checked again according to the instructions in the repair manual and / or the → operating instructions.
t  During removal and installation, take note of small amounts of deviations depending on the equipment.
t  Before disconnecting the connectors, mark them to avoid confusion when refitting.
–  Switch off the ignition and all the electrical components.
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect the earth lead from the battery → Starter motor, voltage supply; Rep. gr.27.
–  Move the adjustable steering column as far down as possible and pull out to the maximum.
–  Move front seats as far back as possible.
–  Remove central console → Chapter.
–  Remove upper linings from struts A → Chapter.
–  Remove the linings from the window triangle → Chapter.
–  Remove driver airbag detonator for driver airbag -N95- → Chapter.
–  Removing steering wheel → Chapter.
   
–  Remove left side cover -1- from instrument panel with the lever -U 30800-.
–  Repeat the operation for the right side cover.
–  Remove the light switch → Lights, lamps and interior switches; Rep. gr.96.

–  Undo the screws -1- and -2- and remove the top part of the steering wheel column trim.
–  Unscrew the bolts -4- and remove the retention hook -3-.
–  Separate the bolt -5-.
–  Remove the upper part of the steering wheel column trim.
–  Extract the instrument panel → Instruments; Rep. gr.90.
–  Remove the steering column control module → Lights, lamps and exterior switches; Rep. gr.94 .
–  Remove the footwell area cover, driver's side → Chapter.
–  Depending on version, remove the radio or navigator → Radio, telephone, navigation; Rep. gr.91.
Vehicles with heating
–  Remove the base plate for the heating controls → Heating; Rep. gr.80
Vehicles with air conditioner
–  Remove the control panel and Climatronic control unit → Air conditioning; Rep. gr.87
Continued for all vehicles
–  Remove the glove compartment → Chapter.
–  Remove the footwell area cover, passenger's side → Chapter.
–  Remove airbag unit on the passenger side igniter 1 for airbag on passenger side -N131- → Chapter.
–  Remove airbag support, passenger side.

–  Extract the solar radiation photosensor -1- and disconnect the connector → Air conditioning; Rep. gr.87.
–  Disconnect the plug connector for the Airbag OFF warning light -3-.
–  Disconnect connector from right air vent temperature sensor -G151--2-.
–  Disconnect connector from left air vent temperature sensor -G150--5-.
–  Remove the self-diagnosis connector -4- from its position in the dash panel insert -6-.

   
–  Remove the ventilators using the lever -U 30800-.

–  Loosen bolts -1- (4x) on both sides of the dash panel insert -3-.
–  Loosen the bolts -2- (2x) in the region of the dash panel insert.
–  Remove the bolts -4- from the rear of the radio or navigation system.
–  Remove bolts -5-.
–  Remove the dash panel insert -3-.
