Heating control: operation, removing and fitting > < Instrument panel diffusers and air conduits

Check the operation of the electronics of the Heating control unitJ65 and the Servomotor for the fresh air / air recirculation flapV154
Check the operation of the electronics of the Heating control unit -J65- and the Servomotor for the fresh air / air recirculation flap -V154-
–  Remove the glove compartment → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. Gr.68.
–  Switch ignition on:
   
–  Turn the rotating control for air distribution -B- to the position “air distribution to the instrument panel air vents”.
–  The button -F- for the fresh air / air recirculation flap is not activated (fresh air option, the LED indicator on the button is not lit).

–  Check the voltage on the connector -A- between pins -9- and -10- for example with the voltage tester -VAG 1527B--B- (to the Servomotor for fresh air / air recirculation -V154-).
–  The “earth” is on pin -9- and the “positive” is on the contact -10-.
–  The Servomotor for the fresh air / air recirculation flap -V154- and the fresh air / air circulation flap are in the position “Fresh air option” (the opening for the air recirculation -C- is closed).

–  Press the button -F- for the fresh air / air recirculation flap is not activated (air recirculation option, the LED indicator on the button is lit).
  Note!
When the button -F- is activated the Heating control unit -J65- changes the voltage supply to the Servomotor for the fresh air / air recirculation flap -V154- (the positive and negative are inverted).

–  Check the voltage on the connector -A- between pins -9- and -10- for example with the voltage tester -VAG 1527B--B- (to the Servomotor for fresh air / air recirculation -V154-).
–  The “earth” is on pin -10- and the “positive” is on contact -9-.
–  The Servomotor for the fresh air / air recirculation flap -V154- and the fresh air / air circulation flap are in the position “air recirculation option” (the opening for the air recirculation -C- is open).
  Note!
t  If no fault is detected during this test:
t  Test the correct movement of the fresh air / air recirculation flap.
t  Replace the Servomotor for the fresh air / air recirculation flap -V154-.
t  If operation is not correct:
t  Check the cable connection between the Heating control unit -J65- and the Servomotor for the fresh air / air recirculation flap -V154- for any open or short circuit → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
t  Check the voltage supply and the earth connection to the Heating control unit -J65-.
t  Replace the Heating control unit -J65- → Chapter.
