Engine number
Engine number
The engine number consists of up to nine characters (alphanumeric). The first part (maximum 3 characters) makes up the “engine code”, and the second part (6 figures), the “serial number”. If more than 999,999 engines with the same engine code are produced, the first of the six characters is replaced with a letter.
   
The engine number (“engine code” and serial number) are engraved on the engine block under the exhaust manifold.

Additionally there is a sticker on the toothed belt guard with “Engine code” and “Serial number”
The “engine code” is also on the vehicle data plate found in the customer vehicle service schedule and also at the rear of the vehicle, in the spare wheel housing or the floor of the boot
