Adjusting throttle cable

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Pedal actuator -V.A.G 1788/10-

Work sequence

–	Hook accelerator cable into accelerator pedal and quadrant on throttle valve control part.

–	Pull off retaining clip for accelerator cable core wire.

–	Depress accelerator pedal to full throttle position.

Note!

A second person is needed for this, or prop the accelerator against the steering wheel by means of the -V.A.G 1788/10- pedal actuator.

Vehicles with manual gearbox

–	Adjust accelerator cable modifying the position of the regulation element in the clip fastener so that the butterfly valve reaches this position at full gas.

Vehicles with automatic gearbox

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Hand-held multimeter -V.A.G 1526- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-

t	Auxiliary measurement set -V.A.G 1594 A- or -V.A.G 1594 C-

t	Pedal depressor -V.A.G 1788/10-

Work sequence

–	Remove the fastening clip for the accelerator cable.

–	Depress the accelerator pedal to full gas (to do so a second mechanic is needed or use pedal depressor -V.A.G 1788/10-).

–	Adjust the accelerator cable modifying the position of the fastening clip in the housing such that the throttle valve opens all the way and the kickdown switch clicks.

–	Release the accelerator pedal or remove the spring expansion bar.

–	Remove the bipolar terminal connector from the kickdown switch -F8- located at the front of the engine compartment (water drain box panel).

–	Plug hand-held multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- into the kickdown switch with auxiliary leads -V.A.G 1594 A- or -V.A.G 1594 C-.

–	Measure the resistance at the switch.

Target value: ∞ Ω

–	Slowly depress the accelerator pedal.

–	Just after surpassing the kickdown pressure point, the resistance should drop to 0 Ω (the accelerator pedal should be just before full gas).
