Removal notes
  Note!
During this work the battery earth strap must be disconnected. The vehicle should be checked for a fitted radio. If necessary obtain radio anti-theft code first.
–  The engine is removed upwards together with the gearbox.
–  With the ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Open the expansion tank sealing cap to release pressure in cooling system.
–  Remove the battery.
–  Remove air filter together with air intake connecting piece → Injection and ignition system, 4LV; Rep. Gr.24.
   
–  Disconnect fuel feed and return pipes -item -1- and -2- (press unlocking button).
  Caution
Fuel supply pipes are under pressure. Before removing hose connections wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.
–  Seal the pipes so that the fuel system is not contaminated by dirt etc.
–  Pull vacuum and breather hoses off engine.
–  Remove the windscreen/headlamp washer tank → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.92.
–  Remove the Lambda probe before the catalizer with tool -U-40080-.
–  Remove and tie the power assisted stering reserve tank in a high position.
–  Disconnect clutch control cable → 5-speed manual gearbox 085; Rep. Gr.30.
–  Disconnect selector mechanism from gearbox → 5-speed manual gearbox 085; Rep. Gr.34.
–  Remove front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold → Chapter, Exhaust manifold, front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and attachments.
–  Remove ribbed belt → Chapter.
–  Remove securing clamps for power steering pressure pipe.

–  Loosen power assisted steering vane pump securing bolts. Using the counter support -U-40011-.
–  Unbolt power steering vane pump and secure to sub-frame with wire; hoses remain connected →  Running gear; Rep. Gr.48.
Vehicles with air conditioner
–  Removing air conditioner compressor: ⇒ Observe additional information and removal work → Chapter
Continued for all vehicles
–  Separate driveshafts from gearbox and secure them up high → Running gear; Rep. Gr.40.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Loosen hose clips and pull coolant hoses off coolant thermostat housing.
  Note!
All cable ties which are opened or cut open when removing engine, must be replaced in the same position when re-installing engine.
–  Disconnect all electric wires from gearbox, alternator and starter and move clear.
–  Separate all the connectors near the thermostat housing and move all the other cables clear.

–  Fit suspension tool -U-30034- as indicated and lift a little with the workshop crane.

–  Remove bolts that secure engine to gearbox and engin supports and remove front support by removing the bolts -arrows-.
–  Turn engine slightly to the left (engine forward, gearbox backwards) and carefully push upwards.
  Note!
When the assembly is lifted out, it must be carefully guided to prevent damage to bodywork.
