Removing and installing sump > < Parts of lubrication system

1 - 15 Nm
2 - Sealing flange
q   With seal.
q   Must seat on dowel sleeves.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Install with silicone sealant -D 176 404 A2- → Chapter
q   Note differing versions of seal.
q   PTFE seal with no inner coil spring
q   Renewing crankshaft oil seal - pulley end → Chapter.
3 - Chain tensioner with tensioning rail, 15 Nm
q   Check for wear.
q   When installing, pretension spring and fit
4 - Bracket
q   For oil level/temperature sender wiring harness.
q   Various versions (bolted or clipped).
5 - Cylinder block
q   Removing and installing crankshaft → Chapter
q   Dismantling and assembling pistons and conrods → Chapter
6 - Oil dipstick
q   The oil level must not be above the max. mark!
q   Lugs on dipstick and funnel must align.
q   Markings → Fig.
7 - Piston fitting tool
q   For oil dipstick.
q   Pull out to extract oil.
q   Lugs on dipstick and funnel must align.
8 - Guide tube
9 - Dowel sleeves
q   Check for secure seating.
10 - O-ring
q   Renew.
11 - Suction line
q   Clean strainer if soiled
12 - Baffle plate
13 - 15 Nm
q   Loosen and tighten with T-bar and socket, 10 mm -3185-
q   Remove using hexagon key extension, 5 mm -3249-.
14 - Sump
q   Clean sealing surface before fitting.
q   Install with silicone sealant -D 176 404 A2-.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
15 - 20 Nm
16 - Bracket
q   Vehicles 06.2000 ►
q   For charge air pipe between exhaust turbocharger and charge air cooler
17 - Seal
q   Fitted firmly
q   If leaking, nip open and replace
18 - Oil drain plug, 30 Nm
q   Renew plug with attached seal.
19 - 10 Nm
20 - Oil level and oil temperature sender -G266-
q   Vehicles 06.2000 ►
21 - Seal
q   Renew.
q   Oil before installing.
22 - Connector
q   Black, 3-pin
23 - 25 Nm
q   Engine codes ASZ, BTB: 20 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
24 - Timing chain
q   Mark direction of rotation before removing.
q   Check for wear.
25 - Sprocket
q   For oil pump.
q   Check for wear.
26 - Oil pump
q   With 12 bar pressure relief valve
q   Before installing, check that both dowel sleeves for centring oil pump on cylinder block are fitted.
q   Renew if running surfaces and gears are scored
