Checking exhaust gas recirculation valve (mechanical)

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Hand vacuum pump -V.A.G 1390-

Test procedure

–	Remove engine cover.

–	Remove connecting hose to charge air cooler at intake connecting pipe.

–	Pull vacuum hose off exhaust gas recirculation valve (mechanical).

–	Connect hand vacuum pump -V.A.G 1390- to valve.

–	Operate pump and observe diaphragm rod.

The diaphragm rod must move in direction of arrow.

–	Pull hand vacuum pump hose off mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve.

The diaphragm rod must move opposite the direction of arrow to original position.
