t  Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051-
t  Diagnosis cable -VAS 5051/1- or diagnosis cable -VAS 5051/3-
Procedure
–  Connect vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051- as follows:
Vehicles ► 05.2000
  W00-1236
–  Open ashtray -3-.
–  Press ashtray cover -1- on both sides in direction of arrows. The ashtray -2- springs out slightly and can be removed.
–  Pull open ashtray housing out of centre console.
–  Push diagnosis cable -VAS 5051/1- connector onto diagnosis connector.
Vehicles 06.2000 ►
  N01-0291
–  Connect diagnosis cable -VAS 5051/1- or -VAS 5051/3- to diagnosis connector.
Continuation for all vehicles
–  Start engine and run at idling speed.
Only when engine does not start:
–  Switch on ignition.
Selecting operating mode:
–  Press button on display for „Vehicle self-diagnosis“.
Selecting vehicle system:
–  Press button „01 - Engine electronics“ on display.
The control unit identification and coding are indicated on display.
Selecting diagnostic function:
–  Press button „02 - Read fault memory“ on display.
–  If no fault is stored in engine control unit „0 fault detected“ is displayed.
–  If faults are stored in the engine control unit, these are shown one below the other on the display.
–  Press button.
–  Press button „05 - Clear fault memory“ on display.
–  Press function „06-End output“.
