Rules for cleanliness
Even small amounts of dirt can cause faults in the injection system. For this reason, when working on the fuel supply system, the injection system or the turbocharger, please observe the following basic rules carefully:
t  Carefully clean connection points and the surrounding area with engine cleaner or brake cleaner and dry thoroughly before opening.
t  Seal off open pipes/lines and connections immediately with clean plugs, e.g. from engine bung set -VAS 6122-.
t  Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover. Use only lint-free cloths.
t  If repairs cannot be carried out immediately, carefully cover or seal open components.
t  Install only clean parts: only remove replacement parts from packaging immediately prior to installation. Do not use parts that have been stored loose (e.g. in toolboxes etc.).
t  When the system is open: Do not use compressed air. Do not move the vehicle unless absolutely necessary.
t  Make sure that no fuel runs onto the fuel hoses. Should this occur, the fuel hoses must be cleaned again immediately. Renew fuel hoses if damaged.
t  Protect the unplugged connectors against dirt and humidity. They should be dry before plugging them.
