Checking process:
  WARNING
Steam may escape when expansion tank is opened. Cover the cap with a cloth and open carefully.
–  Open the cap of the coolant expansion tank.

–  Mount the cooling system tester -VAG 1274B- with adapter -V.A.G 1274/8- onto the expansion tank.
–  Using hand pump on tester, build up a pressure of approx. 1.0 bar.
  DANGER!
Risk of burn injuries! Before removing the cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274 B- from the connecting hose or from the connecting element -V.A.G 1274 B/1-, the pressure must be released. For this purpose, press the pressure relief valve cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274 B- until the pressure gauge equipment displays the value »0«.
If the pressure drops:
–  Locate and eliminate the leak in the engine compartment and underfloor. Remove the noise insulation, where necessary.

Check pressure relief valve in filler cap.
–  Place the cooling system tester -VAG 1274B- with adapter -V.A.G 1274/9- onto the filler cap.
–  Screw in the cap in the adapter for cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274/9-.
–  Operate hand vacuum pump.
l  The pressure release valve should open at a pressure of 1.4 ... 1.6 bar.
