  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling fuel hose from connection. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin.
l  Fuel pressure must be correct, check → Chapter
–  Remove intake manifold lower part → Chapter.
–  Pull off connectors from all the injectors.
   
–  Disconnect the fuel rail along with the injectors from its attachment to the intake manifold, place the removed parts on a clean surface and cover them. Do not use rags that shed fibres!
The fuel line remains connected on the fuel rail.
  Note
The following work step serves only to have the fuel pump running when the engine is stopped.

–  Separate the cover of the electronics box in the engine compartment and extract fuse SB 33 from the socket F 33 of the fuse holder.
  A97-0973
–  Connect right clamp of fuse socket F33 and the battery (+) with auxiliary cables from adapter set -V.A.G 1594 C- so that the fuel pump runs.
  Note
The following operation is to make the fuel pump run when the engine is stopped.
–  Checking injectors for leakage (visual check). Only 1 to 2 drops per minute may emit from each valve when fuel pump is running.
If the fuel loss is greater:
–  Separate fuse socket F33 and battery (+) and renew leaking injector → Chapter.
  Note
t  After replacing components of the injector system, delete the learnt values in the engine controller → vehicle diagnosis device, „Guided function“.
t  Always renew seals.
