Removing and replacing coolant pump t  Removing → Anchor t  Installing → Anchor Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Tray -T20173-

t  Locking tool -T20174- or pliers -T20029- Removing   WARNING Hot vapour/hot coolant may escape when opening expansion tank. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully. –  Open cap of coolant expansion tank.

–  Detach engine cover -arrows-.

–  Remove central soundproofing -Anchorage points 1 ... 3-. –  Place the drip tray -T20173- under the engine.

Engines BLR, BLY –  Turn drain plug -arrow- on radiator anti-clockwise, if necessary fit drain hose to connection.

Engines BVY, BVZ Release the quick connection -arrow-, and remove the coolant hose from the radiator.

Continue for all engines –  Disconnect the connector -1- of the oil pressure sender -F1-. –  Additionally take coolant hose on lower part of oil cooler off -2- and drain off remaining coolant.

–  Take the active carbon filter out upwards with hoses connected and place to side.   Note

Before removing the ribbed belt, mark its running direction with chalk or with a felt tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause it to rupture. –  To slacken the Poly-V belt, turn the tensioner in the direction of the -arrow-. –  Remove poly V-belt. –  Take notched belt off camshaft sprocket → Chapter.   Note t  Pulley and lower notched belt guard need not to be removed. t  The notched belt should be left in position on the crankshaft sprocket. t  Before removing the coolant pump cover notched belt with a cloth to protect against coolant.

–  Unscrew securing bolts -1- of the coolant pump and take coolant pump -2- off. –  Remove O-ring -3-. Installing Continue the installation in the reverse order of removal sequence, observing the following:   Note Renew O-ring. –  Clean and smooth sealing surface for O-ring as required. –  Moisten new O-ring -3- with coolant additive »G12+«. –  Fit coolant pump -2-. l  Fitting position: Housing plug points downwards. –  Tighten coolant pump bolts -1- to 15 Nm. –  Install toothed belt → Chapter. –  Install poly V-belt → Chapter. –  Fill up coolant → Chapter.
