Hand brake cable: removal and fitting (vehicles with drum brakes)
Hand brake cable: removal and fitting (vehicles with drum brakes)
Removing
–  Release hand brake.
–  Dismounting the center console: → General body repairs, assembly work, interior; Rep. Gr.68.
   
–  Loosen readjusting nut -arrows- sufficiently to disconnect the hand brake cable from the expansion tab.
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove wheel.
–  Remove brake drum:Before removing, retract the brake linings through the wheel bolt threaded holes → Fig.
–  Disconnect hand brake cable:

–  Release the brake cable from the control support on the rear axle body -arrows- and unhook it from the support -arrow A-.

–  Remove the hand brake cable -1- from the guide tube by pulling it in the direction of the arrow.
Installation
–  Insert the hand brake cable into the guide tube.
–  Hang the brake cable from the hand brake lever.
–  Installing the brake drum.
Vehicles with drum brakes up to 08.00
–  Adjust the wheel bearing play → Fig.
Continued for all vehicles
  N46-0245
–  Connect hand brake cable to its support in the body of rear axle -arrow A-.
–  The hand brake securing ring must be in the centre of the pin.
–  Connect hand brake cable to the support -arrow-.
–  Connect hand brake cable the expansion tab.

–  Pretension the cable using the adjusting nuts -arrows-.
–  Adjust hand brake → Chapter.
