Removing and installing coil spring
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
   
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spring compressor -V.A.G 1752/1-
t  Adapter -V.A.G 1752/9-
t  Spring jaw, rear axle -V.A.G 1752/16-
t  Splitter -VAS 6274/8-

Removal:
–  Raise the vehicle.
   
–  Remove wheel.
  Caution
In order not to damage the brake hose, it is necessary that the flat side of the upper section of the Spreader device -VAS 6274/8--shown in illustration- is located in the correct side. Fitting position: R (right) / (left).
–  Position the Spreader device -VAS 6274/8- between the bodywork and the top transverse link -left side of the vehicle in the illustration- and pre-tension.

–  Position the spring compressor -V.A.G 1752/1- with the adapter -V.A.G 1752/9- and mount the rear axle spring holder -V.A.G 1752/16-. Take care not to damage trapezium link.
4 coils of spring must be compressed.
  WARNING
Risk of accident. At the same time ensure that coil spring is correctly seated in rear axle spring retainer -V.A.G 1752/16-.
  WARNING
Risk of accident. Compression and rebound of the coil spring may only be carried out on the vehicle or the suspension strut tensioner -VAG 1752-.
–  Compress the spring compressor -V.A.G 1752/1- until you are able to remove the spring.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:

t  When installing a new spring, ensure that the tapered end faces downwards.
t  Arrow B: The coloured marking must be below

–  The bottom spring seat -1- has a pin.
–  Insert pin into hole in trapezium link -2-.
–  Rotate end of coil spring so it contacts limit stop on spring seat -arrow A-.
–  Then insert top spring seat (not shown) into upper end of spring.
–  Slacken off spring. At the same time, fit top spring seat in take-up hole in body.

–  Take out spreader device -VAS 6274/8-.
–  Mount the wheels and the tighten the wheel bolts → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr. 44
