Removal:
Removal:
–  Remove the steering box → Chapter.
–  Clean the area of the steering box around the adjustment bolt.
   
–  Attach the steering box with 2, M10 x 60 bolts, as shown in the diagram.

–  Determine the rotational torque in steering drive.
–  First turn the steering as far as it will go to the right, facing forward.
–  Now turn, using the frictometer -VAS 6222-, the steering uniformly as far as it will go to the left. The rotational torque of the steering wheel must be noted during this operation.
   Specification: 3 ±2 Nm
1  - Friction gauge -VAS 6222-
2  - Socket SW 24

–  Remove the tightening clamp of the left dustguard -1- and release the dust guard from its housing on the steering casing.
–  Turn the steering using the adapter -T10304- to centred position.
The measurement should be -a- = 28 mm.
–  Turn over the steering box in the assembly bench so that the pressure element with the adjustment bolt is facing up.
–  Now insert the dustguard on the steering housing again.

–  Drill 6 holes (for the punching) using a Ø 4 mm bit, until the measurement -a- is reached.
Dimension -a- = 3 mm
Do not drill deeper than 3 mm.
–  Vacuum the shavings using a vacuum for liquids and solids -V.A.G 1373-, so that no remains left in the casing.

–  Loosen the adjustment bolt.

–  Remove the seal -arrow-.
–  Pull the rack towards the pressure element to loosen the rack.

–  At the same time remove the hydraulic pressure part, using the appropriate pliers, from its housing in the steering casing.
  Note
t  Renew complete steering box if there are signs of corrosion, damage, wear or dirt on the steering rack.
t  The complete steering box must also be renewed if there is no visible lubricating film on the steering rack.
