Steering system: Vent after replacing a part |
After working on the steering box, it must be vented by various methods corresponding to the scope of the work carried out. |
If the complete steering system or the steering drive has been replaced: |
–
| Check hydraulic oil level and top up if necessary. |
–
| Raise the vehicle until the front wheels are free. |
–
| Let the engine run briefly (max. 2 seconds). |
The pump must not suck air (do not rotate the steering). |
Wait approx. 30 seconds between engine starts. |
–
| Check hydraulic oil level and top up if necessary. |
–
| Keep repeating this procedure until fluid level remains constant. |
–
| With the engine off, rotate the steering wheel 10 times from limit to limit. |
–
| Check hydraulic oil level and top up if necessary. |
–
| Rotate the steering wheel from stop to stop. |
–
| Check hydraulic oil level and top up if necessary. |
Any remaining air in steering system will dissipate when driving over the next 10 to . 20 km automatically. |
When other steering components (except steering box) have been removed or renewed (e.g. pump, hoses, etc.): |
–
| Check hydraulic oil level and top up if necessary. |
–
| Let the engine run briefly (max. 2 seconds). |
The pump must not suck air (do not rotate the steering). |
