Steering mount: removing and fitting > < Steering mount and steering column up to year 2000 models: removing and fitting

–  Pull out the column from the steering mount as far as possible.
–  Remove the housing ring -2-.
1 - Thread M10 approx. 50 mm long
 - It can be made by cutting off the head of a bolt M10.
–  Loosen the -VW 771- of the column.

–  Release the steering lock body.

–  Loosen the nut -1- of the control lever -2-.
–  Remove the washer -3-.

–  Remove the tightening bolt -1- with the control lever.
–  Pull out the steering mount.
–  Remove the spring.

–  Loosen the clips of the support -1- with two flat screwdrivers -2-, and carefully remove the support downwards.
–  Remove the column from the casing by pulling downwards.
Take care that the balls of the lower bearing of the steering mount do not fall.
