Interchanging wheels .
Interchanging wheels .
Greater tread wear occurs on tyres on the front axle of front-wheel drive vehicles. This is because they are subjected to greater strains.
In order that the 4 tyres on the vehicle all have the same useful life, the wheels on the front axle should be fitted on the rear axle and vice versa.
The longer a tyre is driven in any position, the more it adapts to this position, therefore tyres should be interchanged at short intervals, for example every 5000 km.
For tyres with a specified direction of travel, make sure that the direction has not been changed.
Tyres can only be interchanged in diagonal pairs if there is no specified direction of travel. This interchange is particularly beneficial where saw-tooth wear is detected → Chapter.
If advanced saw-tooth wear is detected and tread wear is over 50%, only minor improvements can be obtained and it is therefore unnecessary to interchange the tyres. The elasticity of tread blocks is reduced and wear is not excessive.
