Poly V-belt pulley on alternator: Removing and installing > < Tightening order: Bracket for ancillaries, vehicles without air conditioning system

Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrenches -SAT 8010-
Removing:
–  Disconnect battery → Chapter.

–  Remove the engine cover, pulling upwards -arrows A- and forwards -arrow B-.

–  Remove the upper section -1- and the lower section -2- of the charge air cooler → 4-cylinder diesel engine with pump injector; Rep. Gr.21

–  Disconnect the DF cable connector-1- and remove the protection -2-.

–  Unbolt the battery positive cable -arrow- of the alternator.
  Caution
Before removing the poly V belt, mark the direction of rotation on the top surface. Note the direction of rotation and the assembly position when fitting the belt. If the belt is fitted against the direction of rotation or in the inverse position, the belt will deteriorate.
–  Remove the Poly-V belt → Engine assembly; Rep. Gr.13

–  Remove the bolts attaching the alternator -arrows-.

–  Remove cable holder -arrow- on the alternator.
–  Remove the alternator upwards from the vehicle.
Fitting:
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:
  Caution
t  When fitting used poly V belts, check the direction of rotation marked on the belt before removing them.
t  Ensure, before installing poly-V belt, that all the units (alternator, air conditioning compressor) are secured correctly.
t  When fitting the belt, check that the pulleys are correctly positioned.

–  Push out the threaded bushes -A- about 4 mm (in the direction of the arrow) from the body of the alternator.

–  Fix the alternator in such a way using both screws -arrows- that it can still be swivelled slightly.
–  Install the Poly-V belt → Engine assembly; Rep. Gr.13

–  Then first tighten the bottom securing screws and then the top ones to the prescribed tightening torque.
  Note
t  Do not support yourself on the alternator when tightening the securing screws.
t  When tightening the securing screws, the tool must not contact the poly V-belt.

–  Mount the cable clip -arrow- onto the rear side of the alternator into the 4 O'clock position.
–  Tighten the fastening bolts or nuts to the torques shown → Chapter .
–  Connect battery → Chapter.
–  Start the engine and check the belt.
–  Switch off engine.
