Tightening torques: Battery: > < Cruise control system (GRA)

Battery: remove and install, for vehicles with Start-Stop system
Battery: remove and install, for vehicles with Start-Stop system
Because of its higher deep-cycle resistance, only a special starter battery is used in vehicles with a start/stop system.
When renewing the starter battery, note correct part designation in → ETKA. Starter batteries for use in vehicles with a start/stop system are marked with „AGM“ (Absorbent Glass Mat) or „EFB“ (Enhanced Flooded Battery).
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -SAT 8010-
  Note
t  These are „AGM“ batteries for vehicles ▶ 05.11 and „EFB“ batteries for vehicles 06.11▶. All instructions and notes for this section can be found under → Electrical system: General information; Rep. gr. 27 .
t  Never replace an „AGM“ battery with a type „EFB“ one. Each battery has been adjusted for the respective battery monitoring control unit -J367- and software.
Removing
  W00-2760
–  Switch off ignition and remove key.
–  Disconnect the connector -1- on the control unit for monitoring the battery -J367--2-.

–  Slacken the fixing nut -4- and disconnect the control unit for monitoring the battery -J367--2- from the negative terminal -3-.
–  Lift the fuse box cover -1- in the direction of the -arrow A-.
–  Remove bolt-2-.
–  Insert two flat head screwdrivers into the recess -3- of the fuse box holder, clip out the retaining tags by pressing the screwdriver in -the direction of arrow B- and pull the holder upwards.

–  Place the main fuse box to one side, as far as the cable of the battery allows.
–  Loosen the securing bolt -1- and disconnect the negative terminal -2- of the battery.
–  Remove the bolts -3-.
–  Remove the clasp -4-.
–  Remove the battery together with the textile cover upwards.
  WARNING
For the disposal of batteries, it is vital to observe the instructions for battery and sulphuric acid disposal.
Installing
  WARNING
When the battery must be replaced, it is necessary to make adoptions with the → Vehicle diagnostic tester → Chapter
Install in reverse order of removal operation. The following should be taken into account:
–  Tighten the fastening bolts or nuts to the torques shown → Chapter .
