  Caution
Observe accident prevention standards for any contact with the sulphuric acid.
Suitable protective clothing must be worn.
Use only a torch to light up the inside of the battery.
Never illuminate the interior of the battery with a naked flame.
Never approach a battery with a flame or a lighted cigarette.
Areas where batteries are being charged must be kept free of naked flame or cigarettes: the gas created during the charging of the battery could easily ignite.
Observe the applicable standards on batteries and sulphuric acid when disposing of batteries.
For the best battery life it is essential to maintain the exact level of electrolyte.
A low electrolyte level could give rise to lost capacity (loss of power) in the battery as the elements dry up. If the plates of the elements are not surrounded by electrolyte (sulphuric acid), the plates, plate bridges and joins between elements will corrode. This has a negative effect on battery operation and it may become unusable.
If the level of electrolyte (sulphuric acid and water) is too high it will spill, causing damage outside of the battery, for example to components in the engine area. Excess electrolyte in the battery must be extracted → Chapter.
–  Make a visual check of the electrolyte level.
  Note!

If the battery has min. and max. marks on the battery case, the checking can be done from the outside.
The level of electrolyte is correct when it is on the max. mark.
What to do if the battery housing does not have the min and max marks or if the level of acid cannot be checked (black casing) :
–  Switch off ignition and all electric consumers.
–  Unscrew the caps.
–  Then it will be possible to check the electrolyte level by looking into the battery.
–  Only use a torch for illumination.

–  Make a visual check of the electrolyte level.
The level of electrolyte is correct when the surface coincides with the mark on the inside of the battery -1-.
The plastic bridge represents the “max.” level of electrolyte.
