Gearbox: removing
–  If possible, before starting to dismount, print a diagnosis protocol for the vehicle. Attach the protocol to the gearbox before returning it in the standard way.
Brief description
Only remove the gearbox from beneath. The engine remains in the vehicle.
The air filter and the engine cover are removed “from above”. Also remove the battery with its console. In order to dismount the left fastening of the engine assembly, the engine should be supported with the grearbox.
“From below” remove the soundproofing and the subframe and detach the drive shafts. Next, lower the gearbox using the gearbox hoist. The drive shafts remain in the vehicle.
Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.

Removing
–  Put the gear selector lever into position “P”.
–  Remove both front wheels.
–  Remove air filter.
–  Disconnect battery → Rep. Gr.27

–  Disconnect the connector of the automatic gearbox control unit -J217-, “on the rear of the battery”.
To prevent damage to the control unit during the following operations, the securing bolts should be removed, the unit removed from its support and “safely” placed to one side.
  N37-10341
–  Remove the battery and its console
  N37-10340
To remove the selector lever cable from the gear box.
–  First unlock the cable -1- and remove it from the counter support -2-.
–  Then separate it from the neck of the knuckle joint. Use an open-end wrench.
–  Disconnect the connection of the multi-function switch -F125-.
  N37-0324
–  Fit the Hose clamp -3094- on the hoses and remove the pipes from the ATF radiator.
  Note
It is not necessary to remove the starter motor. Do not forget to adapt it if another gearbox is fitted later.
  N37-10343
–  Unlock and disconnect the connector -1- from terminal 50.
–  Remove plastic hood -2-.
  N27-10558
–  Unscrew the fastening nut -2- and remove the cable -1- from the electromagnetic switch for terminal 30.
–  Unscrew the fastening nut -3- from the upper bolt which fastens the starter motor.
–  Remove earth cable -4-.
–  Remove the upper bolts that secure the engine to the gearbox.
–  Fit the support tool -10 - 222 A- → Anchor.
–  To intercept the steering box later place a strap -T10038- on the support tool -10 - 222 A- → Anchor.
–  Take the ends of the strap towards the steering box between the engine and the plenum chamber.
–  Remove the sound proofing.
  N27-10559
–  Unbolt the gearbox pendulum support (2 bolts).
  N37-10344
–  Unbolt the oscillating arms from the telescopic arm on both sides.
–  Remove left-hand side wheel well.
  N40-10005
–  Release the fairing on the right underside -arrows- and pull it slightly down.
The lambda probe connector is located behind.
  N37-10378
–  Unclip the cable -arrows-.
  N37-10354
–  Unbolt the casing and disconnect the lambda probe connector.
  N37-10371
–  Remove the forward section of the exhaust pipe.
–  Intercept the steering box with the tensioning belt -T10038-.
–  Remove the subframe → Running gear, shafts, steering; Rep. Gr.40
The subframe is removed with the stabiliser bar, the pendulum support, the two transversal arms and the two consoles. The steering remains in the vehicle, only the subframe is removed.
–  After removing the subframe, detach the two gearbox drive shafts with the wedge -T10161-.
  N37-10345
–  Tie the drive shafts above to the telescopic arm using the tensioning belt -T10038-.
  N37-10373
–  Next disconnect the connectors -1- and -2- of the gearbox.
  N37-10337
–  Release the cable support, on the front of the gearbox, “from the bolt holding the engine to the gearbox”.
  N37-10372
–  Support the motor and the gearbox. Do not raise it.
t  Support tool -10 - 222 A- → Anchor
t  Adapter -10 - 222 A /25-
  E37-10039
–  Remove cable support -arrows-.
  N37-10381
–  Undo bolts -A- and -B- from the left subframe support.
–  Now remove the -console- from the subframe support unit. To do so, lower the engine assembly by turning the spindles of the supporting device -10 - 222 A- → Anchor approximately 14 turns.
