Removing

–  Unscrew left hexagon bolt -arrow- for drive shaft/wheel hub. –  Loosen wheel bolts.

–  Remove air duct trim -1-. –  Remove trim -2- for battery. –  Remove air filter top part.

–  Remove pipe above right eye on engine.

–  Remove vacuum line -a- and plug -b- before hooking support bracket into eye -arrow-.

–  Insert support bracket -10 - 222 A- with adapters -10 - 222 A/5- and adapters -10 - 222 A/3- and secure with bolts of wing -arrows-.

–  Hook support bracket into eyes and support engine/gearbox in this position. –  Vehicles with coded radio unit, note or obtain code. –  Remove battery.

–  Remove bolts of left gearbox mounting -arrows-. –  Raise vehicle. –  Remove noise insulation tray. –  Remove front propshaft tube → .

–  Remove pendulum support -1- by removing bolt -A- and nut -B-.

–  Remove electrical connections -arrows- on gearbox. –  Disconnect drive shafts at flanges.

–  Remove bracket -A- for bevel box -arrows-. –  Remove connector and sensor for speedometer from bevel box.

–  Separate left threaded connection -arrow- between wheel bearing housing and lower swivel joint. –  Turn steering to left full lock and press drive shaft out of wheel bearing housing. –  Remove left drive shaft, taking care not to damage multi-function switch. –  Using spindles of support bracket, lower engine/gearbox until bolts of left gearbox mounting can be accessed.

–  Remove 2 bolts -arrows- of left gearbox mounting. –  Position gearbox mounting at top left in battery box and screw in bolts of mounting until finger-tight. –  Remove starter.

–  Move selector lever to position “P” and remove selector lever cable from selector shaft lever. –  Remove support bracket of selector lever cable -arrows- and place selector lever cable to one side.

–  Clamp both ATF cooler hoses with -3094- and detach at ATF cooler. –  Pull white connector at top next to ATF cooler off gearbox (gearbox speed sender -G38-). –  Remove upper engine/gearbox securing bolts. –  Use socket V/175 to unscrew converter cover plate and nuts (qty. 3) off converter.

–  Set up gearbox support -3282-. To remove the automatic gearbox 099, four-wheel drive, set up gearbox support -3282- with adjustment plate -3282/22 A-. –  Position engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- with gearbox support -3282- under gearbox and support gearbox.

–  Screw gearbox support -3282- with drilled plate tightly onto hole in converter cover plate -arrow-. –  Remove lower engine/gearbox securing bolts.

–  Use support device -3300 A- to turn engine and gearbox forwards until there is adequate clearance between gearbox and subframe for lowering gearbox. –  Press gearbox off engine while simultaneously pressing torque converter out of drive plate. –  Press torque converter against ATF pump. –  Lower gearbox slightly. –  Swivel gearbox and carefully lower. –  Secure torque converter to prevent it from falling out.
