Bleeding clutch mechanism
Bleeding clutch mechanism
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234- or
  W00-1101
t  Brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234-
  Note
t  The clutch mechanism must be bled after performing work on the hydraulic system.
t  During the following work, ensure that no brake fluid lands on longitudinal member or gearbox.
t  Prefilling the system is not necessary.
t  Before bleeding, fill brake fluid reservoir up to „max“ marking with brake fluid.
t  Clutch pedal is at rest position, is not being depressed..
t  Brake fluid: Allocation → Electronic parts catalogue (ETKA)
–  Raise vehicle.

The slave cylinder -arrow 1- can be accessed underneath the vehicle on the left side in the area of the selector mechanism.
It is located near to the gear lever -2-.
–  Connect the brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234- or -V.A.G 1869-.
To bleed system, use 670 mm bleeder hose -V.A.G 1238/B3- if necessary.
–  Then connect bleeder hose to collector bottle of brake bleeding unit.

–  Push collector bottle bleeder hose -arrow- onto bleeder valve (shown from above here).
–  Pressurise system to 2 bar.
–  Open bleeder valve.
–  Allow about 100 cm3 of brake fluid to flow out.
–  Close bleeder valve.
–  Rapidly operate pedal from stop to stop 10 to 15 times.
–  Open bleeder valve.
–  Allow another 50 cm3 of brake fluid to flow out.
–  Close bleeder valve.
–  Depress clutch pedal several times after completion of bleeding process.
